The idea of being able to earn a living from home is an appealing thought for anyone; not only do you have your own freedom but you don’t have to endure the long commute to work every morning.

If you have children to look after, working from home can be the perfect way to enjoy a good work/life balance. Although an increasing number of people are choosing to work remotely, the thought often seems too good to be true for many.

There are, however, many options for making a living from your home, depending on your talents and capabilities.

Web Design

If you have experience of web design and want to work on a freelance or self-employed basis, this can be an ideal option for a home office based job. Web designers are much sought after and there is huge earning potential in this industry.

As long as you build up a strong client base and have regular work coming in, there is no reason you can’t make a living from doing this in the comfort of your own home.

Blogging

Blogging is becoming an increasingly popular way for people to earn money from home. I do it myself and love it!

Writing/Drawing

Whether you are an aspiring writer or experienced in animation or drawing, these are occupations which you can easily carry out from your home office. There are a range of websites where you can find these types of jobs and the longer you do it and better you become, the more options will become available.

Virtual Assistant

An increasing number of employers are choosing the option of hiring virtual assistants to take care of their administration, as is often a more cost effective way of working as they don’t have to pay holidays and other employer benefits.

If you find it difficult to incorporate a full time office based job into your daily routine, a virtual assistant job can be the perfect alternative. You may be required to work within specific hours but these jobs are often much more flexible. If you have children, this is the ideal set up.

Trading Online

If you have the negotiation skills and an eye for bargains, you could easily make a living from trading online. It is all about buying low and selling higher and if you can find the right places to buy your products at low prices, you may easily be able to sell them on and make some cash in the process.

Taking a look around charity shops for bargains or cheaper high street stores and using trading websites such as EBay could make you a healthy profit, all from the comfort of your home. Many people use this method to earn some extra cash but if you can invest enough time into seeking bargains, you could make a career from it.

It may be worth making sure you have enough room in your home before you start this business though!

Matched Betting

Believe it or not, some people actually manage to make a full time living out of online betting, such as matched betting. You can always start with practice money and play for real as your skills develop and you feel that you are ready to compete.

If you’d like to find out more about how to get started with matched betting check out Emma Drew’s blog . She has lots of posts about matched betting and how to make it work for you.
