With every New Year comes new aims, ambitions and resolutions for the coming year ahead, with the most popular aim being to get fit or lose weight. This generally then entails enrolling on some form of exercise course or taking out a new membership at the gym and that results in one thing… cost!

Saving Money on Getting Fit

My friends and I have come up with a solution for saving money on getting fit, we have exercise meet ups! Once a week we take it in turns to host the evening at our own houses where we then do some form of exercise together. Last week we did Zumba on the Wii and this week we are doing a yoga video that we found on YouTube.

The benefits of having exercise meet ups are…

  • You can change the routine every week so you don’t get bored.
  • You can be flexible with dates & times to work around the kiddies/work commitments
  • You’re not working out on your own so you can keep each other motivated
  • It’s a great laugh, especially if like me, you are the most uncoordinated person in the world!
  • There aren’t any strangers around to watch you thump dance around
  • and the most important point… it’s free!

So far it’s been working really well. I’d definitely recommend it. We have even created a ‘Get Fit’ group on Facebook to keep ourselves motivated and provide ongoing support for each other.

I’d also highly recommend sharing your fitness goals with each other. It has been proven that when you share a goal with friends you are far more likely to achieve it than if you don’t.

If you want to take your fitness one step further then perhaps you should consider investing in a *fitness tracker. There are some fantastic ones out there at the moment and there are even ones that you can link up to your friends so you can share your achievements.

I’d love to hear how you keep fit. Leave me a comment below with your best fitness tips.

Thrifty Thursday

Thrifty ThursdayThrifty Thursday is a weekly linky and a place to share your thrifty posts. It doesn’t matter if they are old or new and can be about anything to do with saving money and being thrifty. Whether it be a post on cutting back on your food shop or your latest thrifty find link it up, I’d love to see it.

I have also started a Thrifty Thursday board on Pinterest and I will be pinning any entries onto it each week so more people get to see your great posts.

  2. I’m just about to go out for a run but what always makes me laugh is when I run past the gym carpark. Often there are no carpark spaces left and I just think “GET OUTSIDE!” All those people, miserable on the treadmills. The stupid thing is that you also burn more calories outside because you have wind resistance and you can’t chose the gradient. You also get the continually changing view! Just get some decent trainers (which you’d need to get something at least half the price for a gym anyway), running trainers can be expensive and I recommend going to a proper running shop to get them for advice but approx £80 later, that’s all you’ll be paying all year for your exercise. That’s it. What’s more when you’re away from home, your new ‘gym’ is completely portable!

I'd love to know what you think...
