Upcycling Ideas for a Tea Chest

Following on from my upcycling a tea chest into a laundry basket project I’ve been thinking about other ways you could transform an old tea chest into a piece of furniture for your home.

In case you unsure a tea chest is a large box that is used to ship tea overseas. The boxes are made of wood and held together by metal strips on the edges. This makes them really sturdy boxes, great for placing household items on top.

You can often find tea chest at recycling centres or your local tip. You can also find them on sites like eBay and Freecycle.

When we used to run a pub one of our regular bands that we hired to play were called the Tea Chest Blues. They had a made an instrument out of a tea chest and it worked really well. You can watch a video of them here.

Which one is your favourite upcycling idea?
